Hypnotherapy for Hair Pulling
End Trichotillomania with Hypnosis
I have stopped picking at my skin and hair too. I actually feel more
relaxed and happier with myself. It seems to have happened so easily.
Hair pulling—or trichotillomania—to give it its medical term—is a behavioural impulse disorder that causes the person to pull hair from their head, eyebrows or other parts of the body.
It's a condition that is estimated to affect one or two percent of the population.
In many ways trichotillomania resembles an addiction or habit and there are certainly elements of an obsessive compulsive nature involved with this disorder. In fact, in my clinical practice, I have never come across a single case of trichotilomania that was not accompanied by at least some form of OCD and accompanying underlying anxiety.
It has been estimated that around 90 percent of those with compulsive hair pulling are female, but research on this is inconclusive. It may simply be that men are less likely to seek help for this condition and can more easily hide their symptoms. Interestingly, hair pulling in very young children appears to occur in both males and females to an equal extent, although it does seem to be more benign in nature at this young age.
For the first time, I understand the origins of the many uncomfortable, recurring feelings. Having healed the root cause of these feelings, I now have more clarity and understand myself better...
Many people with trichotillomania pull enough hair over a long enough period of time to create bald spots on their heads which they go to great lengths to cover with hairstyles, hair pieces, wigs, and hats. Some pluck out eyebrows or eyelashes, pubic, or underarm hair.
The persistence of this compulsion can vary considerably: For some people, at some times, it is mild and can be modified with a little extra awareness and focus. For others, the urge can become so overpowering that it makes thinking of anything else almost impossible.
