Beating The Valentine's Day Blues
Wasn’t it only yesterday we were buying those Christmas and New Year cards? And now it’s February and along comes Valentine’s Day, with its romantic hopes and expectations. Love it or loathe it, Valentine’s Day is here to stay. Not everyone loves it, of course. Many people have fallen for the ads and the commercial interests that imply something might be wrong with you if you’re not in a romantic relationship. Single people, for example, may find themselves coping with vague feelings of guilt for not having their own special Valentine.
The key to beating this lies in the realisation that not being in such a relationship at the moment is not the end of the world. In fact, it might be a beginning -- provided you use your feelings in a positive way.
Dwelling on the negative is, after all, a self-defeating exercise. The truth is that we tend to get what we focus on. This is known as the ‘Law of Focus’. Every time we focus on the negative, we are giving the subconscious mind instructions to create those things.
The solution really isn’t rocket science. Instead of beating yourself up, give yourself a pat on the back for meeting all the challenges single life delivers.
Here are some tips for beating the Valentine’s Day blues:
Until next month, stay positive and look after yourself – after all, you don't need the ads to tell you that you really are worth it!
